La Ventana
Part of the charm of
Rancho Sotol is its location in La Ventana, a small fishing village that
retains the traditional charm of Baja – before the chain hotels and
nightclubs. La Ventana is also emerging as a world-class destination
for travellers from all over the world, from kitesurfing enthusiasts to
visitors looking for a more authentic Baja experience.
On the
shores of the Sea of Cortez, which Jacques Cousteau famously described
as the “World’s Aquarium,” Rancho Sotol gazes upon the area that UNESCO
named a world heritage site in 2005, for its outstanding natural beauty
and biodiversity. La Ventana has been named as the world’s best location
for windsurfing and kitesurfing, all located in Mexico’s least populate
state. Only an hour’s drive away from Rancho Sotol is Cabo Pulmo,
Mexico’s national marine park that is home to over 800 species of marine
animals and some of the best waters for diving and snorkeling in the
world.
But Rancho Sotol is far from remote. Located only 30 minutes south of
La Paz, Rancho Sotol is conveniently close to Baja California’s capitol
city, and two hours from Los Cabos. Residents at Rancho Sotol have easy
access to several small markets in La Ventana, beach clubs, hardware
shops, a gas station and a medical center. There is even an organic
market and the occasional Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling) event. The real
treasure of Rancho Sotol, however, is the pristine nature of the
surrounding landscapes. Beaches here feel secluded, the views are
unobstructed, and the lack of light pollution guarantees some of the
best stargazing in the area. Residents enjoy quiet nights and a sense of
privacy, in a unique environmental landscape.
